EXCEED SWINDON – Sustainable Water Management in Developing Countries
Through the Exceed project at Braunschweig University (Germany), the initiative aims to contribute to Millennium Development Goal 7/C (ensuring environmental sustainability and halving, by 2015, the proportion of people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation). The project focuses on capacity building and research through international collaboration.
Launched in 2009, the Exceed Project involves 35 partner universities and research centers from developing countries. Participating countries from Latin America, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia aim to develop sustainable solutions to regional water-related challenges, including water use in agriculture, droughts and floods, water quality, and public health.
To achieve these goals, partner universities have expanded Master’s and PhD-level programs in sustainable water management, added new courses, and organized summer schools, regional and international workshops, and seminars to strengthen capacity. Additionally, exchange programs are
implemented for students, early-career researchers, and faculty members.
