Your internship report is evaluated by the research assistants proposed by the Department Internship Committee and appointed by the Department Chair according to the criteria listed below and is graded on a scale of 100. Reports receiving a grade of 59 or below are considered “FAIL” and are returned to the student along with a copy of the Internship Report Evaluation Form.
Students whose internship reports are evaluated as “FAIL” are required to address the deficiencies indicated on the Internship Report Evaluation Form and submit a revised internship report (together with the previous report) to the Department Internship Committee. The Department Internship Committee has the authority to return the report to the student until the internship report is evaluated as successful.
To have your internship report considered successful, pay attention to the evaluation criteria listed below and the related notes for each criterion.
Internship Report Evaluation Criteria:
Active Participation in Internship Activities: Your internship report will be carefully reviewed to assess whether you actively participated in the internship. If it is determined that you did not actively engage in the internship, your internship will be considered invalid. Therefore, it is very important that you clearly and accurately describe the tasks you performed during your internship to the evaluator. Ensure that your report is written in a clear, coherent, and understandable manner.
Technical Level of the Information Provided in the Internship Report: Do not include excessive technical details in your internship report. For example, do not share all the design calculations of a treatment plant in the report text. Do not directly copy entire technical documents or standards into the report. Do not list regulations item by item in the report. If necessary, refer to these documents within the text and cite them in the References section. Instead of using general expressions like "samples were collected," describe in detail the tasks performed during sampling. In some cases, due to confidentiality agreements between the internship workplace and other firms or companies, analysis, measurement, or inspection results may not be allowed to appear in your report. In such cases, to comply with confidentiality agreements and avoid potential conflicts of interest, report the measurements or analysis results using codes such as sample-1, sample-2 and indicate the locations of sampling, site visits, or inspections without revealing the company or region names using codes such as site-1, site-2 with the approval of your internship workplace.
Transfer of Experience and Knowledge from the Internship: Indicate in your internship report whether the employees at your internship workplace shared their experience and knowledge with you, what new things you learned during the internship, and the strengths and weaknesses of the internship from a transparent perspective. Highlighting the weaknesses of the internship will not negatively affect the evaluation of your report.
Incorporation of the Student's Own Observations into the Internship Report: Include in your internship report the observations you made during the internship. Indicate whether the internship met your expectations, what skills or knowledge you gained by the end of the internship, and whether you were able to apply what you learned in your courses to the tasks performed during the internship.
Compatibility of the Work with the Internship Period: Your internship report will be evaluated to determine whether it covers the topics relevant to the internship period (Practical/Office).
Compatibility of the Work with the Nature of the Workplace: Your report will be reviewed to assess whether the tasks performed during the internship align with the routine activities of the workplace.
Format and Writing Quality of the Internship Report: Prepare your internship report according to the rules specified in the Internship Report Writing Guide. Your report will also be evaluated in terms of formatting and presentation.
Language Used: Pay attention to the language used in your internship report. Do not write the report in a conversational style (using first person singular or plural). Use a formal tone and prefer passive constructions in your sentences. For example, instead of writing "I/we collected a seawater sample," write "A seawater sample was collected."
Citations of References: Every source listed in the References section must be cited within the text of your report.
